During a conversation with Farrhana Bhatt on Bigg Boss 19, Amaal Malik, a well-known singer and music director, opened up about his extremely personal life story and journey in the world of music.
He went on to speak about his very unfortunate breakup due to religious differences. Amaal added that the opposition to their love from the lady love's family made matters worse to her health. “She was literally sick, so weak… I sat with her for hours and tried to explain that her parents weren’t agreeing,” he recalled. He also spoke about the heartbreak of her wedding, saying, “She asked me on stage and even over the phone, ‘If you come, I won’t get married.’ I couldn’t go because I had to balance my career and respect for my parents.”
Amaal described 2020 as a particularly challenging year, when he faced depression and family differences while simultaneously working on major projects like Kabir Singh. “It felt like my life was playing out like a movie,” he said, reflecting on how personal and professional challenges coincided.
Despite these setbacks, Amaal credited his family responsibilities and his father’s health as driving forces behind his dedication. “I’ve been running my house since I was 15. There was a point where all doors seemed closed for me… I just felt, before something happens to my dad, I have to be successful. I had to make it,” he shared.
He also went on to explain the impact of his mentors, Salim-Suleiman, saying, "Me and Armaan love and respect them immensely." Amaal further recounted his days when he was starting in the industry, beginning as a background music assistant and climbing the steps through honest hard work and on-the-job training.
On career reflections, he stated, "In this generation, I reckon myself to be the most recognized, or at least among the most well-known, music directors. I have carved out my own space with intense dedication and hard work, with perseverance. I have been heartbroken, I have been pressured, I have had responsibilities, and these are the experiences that have molded me."
