Hyderabad: Telugu cinema’s latest rural action-drama Bhairavam hit theaters this weekend with high expectations, but the initial audience response paints a mixed picture. Headlined by Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas, Manchu Manoj, and Nara Rohith, the film attempts to blend intense action with emotional storytelling—but hasn’t landed equally well for all.

Directed by Vijay Kanakamedala, the film explores the fragile balance between power, loyalty, and land politics. It follows three childhood friends who find themselves on opposing sides of a battle for control over sacred temple land. While some viewers applauded the film’s rustic setting and emotional undertones, others felt the screenplay didn’t do justice to its potential.

“There are moments where Bhairavam really grips you—especially the emotional confrontations and climactic payoff,” said a viewer outside a Hyderabad multiplex. “But the pacing feels uneven and some of the fight sequences are too drawn out.”

Comeback and Chemistry

The film also marks a notable return for Manchu Manoj, who delivers a brooding performance that has already gained buzz on social media. Nara Rohith offers a calm yet impactful counterweight, while Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas continues his action hero streak with conviction.

However, industry observers note that while the trio’s chemistry adds weight, it’s not enough to fully elevate the film. “Strong performances are there, but the script needed tighter direction,” said a local film critic.

Box Office Buzz

Despite divided critical reception, Bhairavam opened strong at the box office, especially in Tier 2 cities and rural centers, where its themes have deeper resonance. Producers are banking on positive word-of-mouth to drive momentum into the week ahead.

What’s Next?

With competition from urban thrillers and pan-India releases lined up in the coming weeks, Bhairavam has a limited window to assert itself. But if it succeeds, it could rejuvenate the trend of multi-hero rural dramas that dominated Telugu cinema a decade ago.
