Overview:
Bhairavam brings together a powerhouse trio—Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas, Manchu Manoj, and Nara Rohith—in a gritty action-packed drama. With a decent buzz before release, the film has finally hit the theatres. Let’s dive in to see if it lives up to the hype.
Story:
Gajapathi Varma (Manchu Manoj) and Varadha (Nara Rohith) share an unbreakable bond since childhood. Their world changes when Seenu (Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas), an orphan, becomes a part of their lives. Years later, a powerful minister (Sharath Lohithaswa) sets out to grab sacred temple land, aided by the corrupt CI Pardha Sarathi (Sampath Raj). What begins as a fight for justice turns personal, as betrayal creeps into the trio’s once-strong bond. The rest of the story explores how trust turns into vengeance, and peace descends into chaos.
What Works (Plus Points):
Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas delivers a mature and emotionally layered performance. It’s one of his most refined portrayals, reflecting his growth as an actor.
Nara Rohith impresses with a calm, restrained, and composed act, adding gravitas to his character.
Manchu Manoj steals the show in several moments with his intense presence, commanding dialogue delivery, and brooding energy.
The action sequences, especially the interval block and Bellamkonda's transformation scene, are adrenaline-filled and sure to satisfy mass cinema lovers.
Divya Pillai plays a meaningful role with depth and delivers it convincingly. Supporting actors like Sampath Raj and Ajay contribute effectively to the storyline.
What Doesn’t Work (Minus Points):
The story is predictable and straightforward, offering few surprises. The film banks heavily on treatment, which unfortunately lacks punch.
The second half loses steam, dragging in several portions and failing to maintain the momentum built in the first.
The emotional bond between the lead characters feels undercooked. Their friendship is told rather than shown, making it difficult for the audience to connect. Female leads like Aditi Shankar, Aanandi, and Vennela Kishore are sadly underutilised. Aditi’s role is limited to songs and inconsequential scenes. The songs don’t stand out or enhance the narrative, making the music one of the film’s weaker aspects.
Technical Analysis:
Director Vijay Kanakamedala, adapting the Tamil film Garudan, doesn’t fully tap into the emotional or dramatic core of the story. The foundation is strong, but the execution lacks focus and tightness.
Hari K Vedantham’s cinematography is visually sound and sets the tone well.
Sricharan Pakala’s background score helps lift emotional moments, but the songs fall flat.
Chota K Prasad’s editing could have been sharper, especially in the lagging second half.
The production values are top-notch, and the film boasts a rich cinematic look.
Verdict:
Bhairavam is a partly engaging action drama that rides on strong performances but falters in emotional depth and narrative grip. While Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas, Nara Rohith, and Manchu Manoj elevate the film with their solid portrayals, the predictable plot, sluggish second half, and underwritten characters dilute the overall experience. It might appeal to fans of mass entertainers but go in with moderate expectations.
