The highly anticipated movie Akhanda 2: Tandavam which is the collaboration of Natasimha Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Srinu finally got released in theatres with great expectations. The film, which is a continuation of the blockbuster Akhanda, has been in production by Ram Achanta and Gopichand Achanta through the 14 Reels Plus banner and Balakrishna's daughter, Tejaswini Nandamuri has presented it. Samyuktha Menon, Aadi Pinisetty, and Harshali Malhotra are the main actors.
Mounted on a lavish budget with high-octane action sequences, the film features music composed by S Thaman. Cinematography is handled by C Ram Prasad and Santosh D Dtake, while AS Prakash serves as art director, Tammiraju as editor and Ram-Laxman as action choreographers. Koti Parchuri is the executive producer. After resolving financial issues, the film was released on December 12, following premiere shows on December 11.
Given the blockbuster success of Akhanda, the Balakrishna–Boyapati combination generated strong pre-release business. The film reportedly did worldwide business worth Rs 103 crore and entered the box office race with a break-even target of Rs 104 crore share, translating to around Rs 208 crore gross collections.
The opening day numbers were impressive. According to an official announcement by 14 Reels Plus Productions, Akhanda 2 collected Rs 59.5 crore worldwide from premieres and Day 1 combined. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the film earned Rs 25.25 crore net and Rs 38.25 crore gross. Globally, trade estimates put Day 1 collections at Rs 30 crore net and Rs 48.85 crore gross.
However, the momentum dropped sharply on Day 2, with collections falling by nearly 45 percent. Trade sources report worldwide earnings of around Rs 9 crore net and Rs 18 crore gross on the second day. In India, the film collected approximately Rs 15 crore net from Telugu markets, with marginal contributions from Hindi, Kannada and Tamil versions. Total India net collections stood close to Rs 50 crore by the end of Day 2.
In overseas markets, Akhanda 2 grossed $601K in North America from premieres and Day 1. Day 2 added around $50K, while early estimates suggest about $125K on Day 3. Overall, the film’s North America collections are expected to be around $750K.
As per Day 3 estimates, the film appears to be struggling at the box office. Ticket sales on platforms like BookMyShow and district-level apps remain low. Trade analysts predict Day 3 collections in the range of Rs 10 crore to Rs 12 crore gross. With this, the film’s total worldwide gross is estimated to be around Rs 90 crore.
With collections showing a steep decline after the opening day, questions are now being raised about whether Akhanda 2: Tandavam can sustain its run and eventually move into the profit zone.
