Actor Ravi Mohan and his estranged wife, Aarti Ravi, appeared before the Chennai Family Court on May 21, submitting separate petitions as their legal separation process continued.
The couple, involved in a high-profile divorce case, has been engaged in public allegations since Ravi Mohan disclosed their split last year. During the latest court session, Ravi repeated his earlier claim that he had granted a divorce, while Aarti submitted a counter-petition seeking Rs 40 lakh per month as alimony.
Previously, Ravi filed a divorce plea that led the court to mandate reconciliation sessions. Both parties complied and attended multiple sessions as ordered. However, with no resolution, the matter returned to court.
At the hearing on Wednesday, Ravi urged the court to dismiss Aarti's request for marital cohabitation. In response, the court advised both sides to review their respective stances and postponed further proceedings until June 12.
The day before the hearing, Aarti released a detailed public statement, blaming an external party for the marital breakdown. She identified Kenishaa Francis, allegedly linked to Ravi, as a disruptive presence in their relationship. Aarti stated that the cause of their separation stemmed from an outsider’s involvement and claimed to possess evidence supporting her assertions.
Ravi, known for his roles in Tamil cinema, announced the decision to part ways with Aarti in 2024. He stated the move was made after considerable thought and was not impulsive. His message stressed that the decision aligned with the overall well-being of those concerned. Around the same time, he transitioned professionally from the screen name "Jayam Ravi" to his given name, Ravi Mohan.
Aarti, meanwhile, contested the announcement, stating that the divorce was pursued without her agreement.
Ravi Mohan is the son of noted film editor A Mohan and has acted in films like Jayam, Daas, Mazhai, Bommarillu, Peranmai, Romeo Juliet, Bhoomi, and Siren. Aarti is the daughter of television producer Sujatha Vijayakumar. The couple share custody of their two sons, Aarav and Ayaan.
The family court’s next hearing on the case is scheduled for June 12.
