Bridging Gap In Processed Rice Needs In Country

Currently working with approximately 150 distributors across India, DRRK Foods plans to expand this number to over 300 within the next two years. This strategic expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to making our flagship Crown Basmati Rice brand more accessible to consumers across tier 1, 2, and 3 cities -- Vikram Marwaha, Jt MD, DRRK Foods
With roots stretching back to 1967, DRRK Foods, a leading player in India’s premium Basmati rice sector, was established by Daulat Ram Marwaha and his son, Mohinder Pal, in the city of Amritsar, Punjab.
The company was founded during the pre-green revolution era, a time when India was grappling with food shortages. Its flagship brand - Crown Basmati Rice has flourished into a global symbol of quality and tradition in the rice industry. The primary objective was to meet the processed rice needs of the Government of India, using Punjab’s status as the granary of rice; to ensure a reliable food supply.
The company closed the fiscal year on Rs1,000 crore. Its profit after tax (PAT) margin is currently in the range of 6-7 per cent.
There were 150 employees with the company at its inception. The headcount has doubled to 300 now. Talking about his success mantra, Vikram Marwaha, Joint Managing Director, DRRK Foods, tells Bizz Buzz that “Quality, Technology, and Sustainability. Focus on premium Quality and Consistency, Technological Advancements. We are cautiously optimistic about maintaining this profitability as we scale. Our strategy remains rooted in sustainable growth with healthy margins, rather than chasing topline growth alone.”
As part of its future hiring plans, the company will focus on strengthening teams in production, quality control, sales and logistics focusing on skilled talent to drive operational efficiency, maintain product quality, and expand market reach.
The company aims to increase its domestic distributor base by 50 per cent by the end of this year, strengthening its footprint in both urban and emerging markets.
“Currently working with approximately 150 distributors across India, DRRK Foods plans to expand this number to over 300 within the next two years, as we are looking for a strong super stockist with an FMCG background. This strategic expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to making its flagship Crown Basmati Rice brand more accessible to consumers across tier 1, 2, and 3 cities.
