A winter storm advisory has been issued for central North Carolina, which has resulted in the closure of schools and the change of schedules for many on Monday. The officials are predicting snow, low temperatures, and dangerous roads that could affect not only students but also commuters.

Durham Public Schools, Johnston County Schools, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Wilson County Schools, Nash County Schools, Franklin County Schools, and Warren County Schools are some of the major public school districts that have declared full closures. The staff at Chapel Hill-Carrboro was provided with an optional remote workday.

Aside from full closures, some districts modified their schedules: Wayne County Public Schools allowed students to leave two hours early and canceled after-school programs, whereas Halifax County Schools closed their doors at noon. Person County Schools and Roxboro Community School switched entirely to online learning for the day.

The situation also affects various private and charter schools. The Dillard Academy Charter School will have an early dismissal, and closed are Mt Zion Christian Academy, Reaching All Minds Academy (Durham), and Southside Christian School. Besides, the early education programs of Franklin County Head Start, Granville County Head Start, Vance County Head Start, Warren County Head Start, and Huckleberry's Friends in Wake County are also closed.

Among the closures are also community colleges. Edgecombe Community College won't open its doors Monday, and Vance-Granville Community College will not accept students after noon as the storm continues to have its effects in the area.

Officials are advising families to stay indoors, travel only if absolutely necessary, and keep an eye on the updates since the bands of snow are expected to form rapidly which in turn will increase the chance of accidents and lead to more school disruptions.
