Introduction:
Several states across India have announced the closure of schools on Thursday, October 30, 2025, caused by Cyclone Montha and the local festival of Jagadhatri Puja. Just as schools had come back from the holidays on Diwali and Chhath Puja, another round of holiday declarations was festive weather and regional festivities issued for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Cyclone Montha: Schools Are Closed in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha
Andhra Pradesh
Schools and colleges in 12 districts of Andhra Pradesh are to remain closed till 31st October due to severe weather conditions predicted by Cyclone Montha.
All educational institutions in the following districts will, therefore, be closed as per the notification issued by Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education:
Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and YSR Kadapa.
In view of passing Cyclone Montha in the sea, people living in coastal districts of Odisha were urged by the weather office to stay indoors and follow all safety measures laid down by local authorities.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall with accompanying strong winds as the season passed over far south-eastern coast under Cyclone Montha, holidays were announced on October 30 for schools in many coastal and southern districts.
Some of the districts wherein schools are closed are as under:
Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.
Local administrations may monitor the situation and come to a decision regarding reopening dates.
Schools Closed in Tamil Nadu Due to Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rain brought by Cyclone Montha has also somehow affected normal life in Tamil Nadu.
The district administration has declared that all schools and colleges in Tiruvallur District will remain closed on October 30 as a precautionary measure. According to the development of weather, some more districts may announce closures.
Holiday in West Bengal for Jagadhatri Puja.
In West Bengal, schools are closed on October 31 in observance of Jagadhatri Puja, one of the biggest festivals of the state celebrated with much fervor. Many schools again will remain closed the following day in lieu of the weekend.
Extension of Pooja Holidays in Jammu & Kashmir
Jammu Division: Now, all government and private schools will remain closed till 2nd November on account of Pooja holidays.
From 3rd November onwards, classes will be conducted as usual.
