AU gets patent for hydrogen sensor invention

Visakhapatnam: Prof Hanumanthu Purushotham DPIIT-IPR Chair and Head of the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights, Andhra University on Thursday said the Controller of Patents, Government of India, granted a patent to one of their inventions “Metal free hydrogen sensor and method of fabrication thereof.”

He thanked the Controller for granting the patent to AU on such a record period of 11 months against the standard four to five years’ time it usually takes.

He told Bizz Buzz that to get a patent granted by the government the invention has to be novel at the global level. Grant of a patent to AU is a strong indicator of high-quality research happening on the campus.

He said as the hydrogen economy is poised for growth the metal-free hydrogen sensor will find its application in hydrocarbon and other processing industries. The research was led by Prof Kalidindi Suresh Babu and Prof K Basavayya of the Chemistry Department.
