VPT explores biz opportunities in Hyderabad

Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) in collaboration with Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) has conducted a trade meet in Hyderabad on Thursday to attract new customers and exploring various business opportunities, taking valuable feedback from the existing stakeholders and customers of the port.

Hyderabad: Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) in collaboration with Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) has conducted a trade meet in Hyderabad on Thursday to attract new customers and exploring various business opportunities, taking valuable feedback from the existing stakeholders and customers of the port.

Durgesh Kumar Dubey, Deputy Chairman of VPT, said: "Our port is one of the leading major ports of India, located midway between Kolkata and Chennai. It has been playing a catalyst role in serving the maritime trade since 1933. A quantity of 69.84 million tonne per annum (MTPA) of cargo was handled by the port during the FY 2020-21 and the proposed current year target for FY22 is 71 MTPA."

During 2020-21, a quantity of 36.79 MTPA (53 per cent) is handled entirely by port berths. Cargo handled by the private operators was 33.05 MTPA (47 per cent). During the first eight months (April – November) of the current fiscal, VPT handled cargo traffic of 44.98 MTPA. It is currently ranked fourth among major ports and second among the East Coast Ports in terms of volumes handled.

The capacity of the port as is 126 MTPA, having mechanised facilities for 100 MTPA and a semi-mechanised facility for 26 MTPA. The outer harbour has 200 hectares of water area with six berths of super cape capability deepened to (-) 20.1 metre to navigate vessels of permissible draft of 18.10 metre of 2 lakh deadweight tonnage (DWT).
