Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), one among top five premier ports in India, will invest Rs 300 crore in collaboration with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Railways for the development of the city. Addressing a meeting after inspecting a ceremonial parade organised on the occasion of 75th Republic Day at Port Stadium here, VPA Chairman M Angamuthu said that it is a special day for VPA, which is the convergence of celebrating the 90th foundation year during the 75th Republic Day fete. He informed that VPA is actively involved in creating the necessary infrastructure facilities.

The Chairperson disclosed that VPA in collaboration with NHAI and Railways is planning to spend close to Rs 300 crore for various projects, which are not only meant for VPA development but also useful for the Vizag citizens. During this year 2023-24 VPA will handle over 80 million tonnes of cargo and increase it to 100 million tonnes by 2027. He stated that VPA is closely working with the State government by sanctioning CSR funds for various projects.

Dr Angamuthu reiterated that VPA is committed to maintain the key performance indicators (KPI) duly improving the productivity to continue as one of the best ports in the country. He said VPA is implementing several green port Initiatives viz., setting up of solar power plants, plantations, providing CNG buses, deploying sweeping machines to reduce the carbon emission to zero level in the city as part of Amrit Kaal Vision-2047 of the government of India.

Marking the celebrations more vibrant, VPA organised cultural programmes with patriotic themes, CISF performed various security demonstrations like gun firing and display by sniffing dog squad.

Later he gave away the citations and awards to the employees for their better performance. Swachh Bharat awards were also given as a part of special campaign-3 to the departments and also to the stakeholders for their record performance in

their field.
