Visakhapatnam: As expected, the launching of a development centre by IT major Infosys in Visakhapatnam has generated a positive impact with many IT giants evincing interest to invest in the sector in Andhra Pradesh’s largest city.

“We are in talks with many, and due to positive vibes generated by the proactive policies initiated by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Visakhapatnam is all set to emerge as a hotspot for investment in the IT domain,” Minister for IT and Industries Gudivada Amarnath said.

Wipro, which is operating a campus on a low-key note for over a decade here, has recently launched an opinion-gathering exercise amongst its techies under ‘Operation Lavender’ to find out their interest to relocate to Visakhapatnam. Wipro has identified the city as an emerging tier two location in India for the growth of IT.

The city hit the headlines recently with Infosys launching a centre at Madhurawada IT Special Economic Zone. Inaugurating the new office, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “We acknowledge the support of Infosys in giving impetus to the city’s IT landscape and developing its overall ecosystem through community-building.”

The development centre, which will accommodate approximately 1,000 employees, is aligned with Infosys’ future-ready hybrid workplace strategy. These developments come in the wake of a report released by NASSCOM and Deloitte India which identified Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati among 26 emerging tech hubs in the country.

Andhra Pradesh government believes that the establishment of Adani Data Park and laying of undersea cables from Singapore at a total cost of Rs 21,844 crore will change the future dynamics of broadband services. Raheja Group, which commenced work on Inorbit Mall and a star hotel at a site provided here by Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) under land monetization scheme, has sought suitable land in the city to develop an IT park on the lines of Raheja Mind Space in Cyberabad of Hyderabad. APIIC is also in the process of building a business hub with focus on IT and ITeS at Madhurawada under PPP mode envisaging an investment of Rs 2300 crore.
