Visakhapatnam: Gangavaram Port Limited, which has been acquired by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has announced several records in cargo handling.

The company said RINL-Vizag Steel has expressed its gratitude for the national record achieved by it and has appreciated the port management, staff, workers, and stevedore Integral Trading Ltd who helped in achieving the feat. "We are incredibly proud of our team's accomplishments. Our cargo management efficiency is demonstrated by our record of sugar cargo loading and discharge of numerous commodities," a GPL spokesman said.

He said, "We at Gangavaram Port always strive to provide the best service to our customers. GPL provides significant cost savings to Indian importers through reduced ocean freight, highly efficient operations, advanced material handling and evacuation systems, vast storage areas for all types of cargo, extensive ancillary facilities, and faster turnaround time and delivery."

Gangavaram Port has achieved maiden record in sugar cargo by loading 16,020 tonne from the vessel MV Jenny M which berthed at port on February 21. The port performed extremely well with the loading of 10,854 tonne of steel blooms on the account of RINL by using the vessel cranes on a 24-hour basis. This has surpassed the earlier record of 9,078 tonne on a 24-hour basis in November, 2021. This is a national record by any port, the company said.

The port has achieved the highest loading of iron ore fines of 53,261 tonne in 24 hours into MV Crimson Knight for KIOCL in this month, which has surpassed the earlier record of 52,677 tonne of the vessel MV African Spoonbill. The port discharged 70,000 tonne of steam coal within 24 hours from the vessel MV Manasota on the account of AEL in January. It has surpassed the earlier record of 65,059 tonne from the vessel MV Star Marilena. The port deployed two ultra-modern ship unloader cranes.

The port discharged 43,700 tonne of PCI coal within 24 hours by using harbour mobile cranes from the vessel MV. Atmosphere on the account of JSPL in January surpassing the earlier record of 22,333 tonne of PCI coal from the vessel MV. Aqua Fortune. The port said it also achieved the highest average discharge rate in handling 74,510 tonne bauxite from the vessel MV Championship for Vedanta last month.
