Hyderabad: Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey for 2020-21 in Parliament on Friday.

This annual account of India's economic landscape is keenly watched and dissected as it comes amid an unprecedented economic crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic in India and around the world. As India's economy is projected to register a steep contraction in the current financial year, the Survey authored by Chief Economic Advisor Krishnamurthy Subramanian is expected to come out with an economic growth forecast for the next financial year i.e. 2021-22.

It's a general practice that the Economic Survey is tabled in the Parliament a day before the Union Budget is presented. This time, the Survey is coming out three days before the Budget as a weekend separates both the events.

As always, the latest Economic Survey, described as the central government's report card on the economy, also discusses the State of economy in threadbare, dwells on the policy challenges and the changes that are required and dishes out sectoral overviews. It also lays broad guidelines for future policy decisions and signals what is in store for the country in coming years.
