Mumbai/ Vijayawada: India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection rose to over Rs 1.83 lakh crore in February 2026, registering an 8.1 per cent increase, according to official data released on Sunday.

With this, total gross GST revenue for the financial year 2025-26 stood at Rs 20.27 lakh crore as of February 28, reflecting an 8.3 per cent year-on-year growth.

Total refunds during February amounted to Rs 22,595 crore, up 10.2 per cent compared to the same month last year. After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenue for the month came in at Rs 1.61 lakh crore. Gross domestic GST revenue stood at Rs 1.36 lakh crore, marking a 5.3 per cent rise. Revenue from imports showed stronger momentum, with collections rising 17.2 per cent to Rs 47,837 crore, indicating buoyancy in cross-border trade. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh has posted a 5.45 per cent growth in Net GST Collections in February 2026-- highest-ever February.

Met GST collections achieved recorded growth in net GST collections in February 2026, despite a rate reduction on major consumer essentials, consumer durables, pharmaceuticals, and cement, as well as the withdrawal of GST on life insurance and medical insurance due to the implementation of GST 2.0 reforms effective from September 22, 2025. According to a government release, GST Compensation Cess has been withdrawn on all liable items except tobacco and tobacco products. Increased consumption, driven by rate reductions, strategic policy initiatives, and enhanced compliance mechanisms, contributed to the state’s sustained revenue growth.
