AP to spend Rs.11,700 crore on new/old medical colleges
In an attempt to improve healthcare facilities, the Andhra Pradesh Government is setting up new medical colleges besides strengthening the existing colleges at an estimated cost of Rs.11,700 crore.

Visakhapatnam In an attempt to improve healthcare facilities, the Andhra Pradesh Government is setting up new medical colleges besides strengthening the existing colleges at an estimated cost of Rs.11,700 crore.
Letter of acceptance is issued after calling for tenders to start 12 government medical colleges with a total project cost of Rs.5,830 crore.
Work has been launched to establish medical colleges at Paderu, Machilipatnam, Piduguralla and Pulivendula at an estimated cost of Rs.2050 crore. Work orders were issued after finalizing tenders to strengthen 11 existing government medical colleges with an outlay of Rs.3820 crore.
"The government is keen on improving medical facilities and increasing medical seats by starting four medical colleges," according to D. Muralidhar Reddy, Managing Director, AP Medical Services Infrastructure Corporation (APMSIDC).
Work is in progress to make them operational at the earliest after signing the required agreements, he told reporters here on Friday. He said the corporation during 2021-22 had taken up various works for upgradation of secondary healthcare infrastructure at 165 area hospitals and community health centers through regional packages in a systematic way at a cost of Rs.1223 crore.
Stating that various steps are taken to improve COVID care facilities, he said the government has initiated 46 PSA plants at 42 hospitals under CSR. Under this, 42 PSA plants are already operational.
As many as 25 numbers of 20 KL ISO certified containers for transportation and storage of liquid medical oxygen are purchased by spending Rs.15.25 crore. Twenty RT-PCR labs have been established across the State at a cost of Rs.6.22 crore.
Reddy said under emergency Covid-19 package-II, the State is setting up 20-bed pediatric care units with oxygen support at 183 community health centers at a cost of Rs.64.05 crore. There is a proposal to buy LMO tanks with a capacity of 230 KL for installation at 23 hospitals by spending Rs.8.03 crore.
The government has completed work to establish a genome sequencing lab at AIIMs building at Vijayawada.
He said for setting up city diagnostic centers and regional drug stores (RDS), work is in progress at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati at a total cost of Rs.58.98 crore with grant from National Health Mission (NHM).
Reddy disclosed that work is underway for construction of district early intervention centers at 18 locations at a total cost of Rs.19.08 crore (each Rs.1.08 crore) with grant from NHM.
