Alert Centre reviews Iran conflict impact on trade

New Delhi: The government on Monday held inter-ministerial deliberations with exporters and logistics players to assess the impact of escalating tensions in the West Asian region on India’s trade and assured all facilitative measures to mitigate disruptions.
The meeting was convened by the Department of Commerce amid rising hostilities after the United States and Israel launched military strikes on Iran, which retaliated with drones and missiles targeting Israel, US military installations in the Gulf, and the global business hub of Dubai. The Department held consultations with stakeholder ministries and key logistics and trade facilitation partners to review the evolving geopolitical situation and its potential impact on India’s export-import (EXIM) cargo flows. Stakeholders assessed routing and transit-time changes, vessel scheduling adjustments, container and equipment availability, freight and insurance cost trends, and implications for time-sensitive exports.
Participants stressed the need to maintain predictability in cargo movement, minimise delays, and ensure seamless documentation and payment processes.
