Visakhapatnam On second day of his visit to Visakhapatnam agency area on Friday, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Commissioner Vineet Brijlal supervised ganja destruction cultivated in Maoist affected areas of Chintapalli mandal.
Lothugedda panchayat Meduru village chosen for destroying cannabis crop by police and SEB teams in coordination with government departments as part of the Operation Parivartana.
The operation is part of government's drive to stop ganja cultivation in the Visakhapatnam agency area-which is known for Maoists.
SEB Commissioner inspected the 11th day of ganja plantation demolition in Visakhapatnam. Till now more than 2100 acres of ganja has been destroyed. Teams destroyed ganja crop grown in 72 acres in the village.
The Commissioner also spoke with local people and gave cash reward to the sarpanch of Medur village for voluntarily destroying ganja. He also ensured support for alternative crops through ITDA.
The Commissioner said that the main objective was to stop the cultivation and transportation of ganja and that the drive will continue till it is completely stopped.
He said that police and SEB teams are conducting extensive inspections in the State to curb ganja smuggling.
On the first day on Thursday, the Commissioner supervised the destruction of 5.75 lakh ganja plants in 115 acres in the vicinity of Padabayalu mandal, Puttur and Pangalam villages.
