Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Road railway stations have been certified as ‘Eat Right Station’ by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for providing quality and nutritious food to passengers.

Visakhapatnam Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Road railway stations have been certified as ‘Eat Right Station’ by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for providing quality and nutritious food to passengers.

A third-party audit, which was empanelled by the FSSAI inspects the stations for ‘Eat Right Station’ certification along with the commercial, medical and other departments.

Vizianagaram and Srikakulam were second and third stations in Waltair Division under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to get the prestigious certification. Visakhapatnam was the first station in Telugu-speaking States to get the certification, Divisional Railway Manager A K Satpathy said.

The certification is part of the ‘Eat Right India’ movement-a large-scale effort by FSSAI to transform the country’s food system to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all Indians. Eat Right India adopts a judicious mix of regulatory, capacity building, collaborative, and empowerment approaches to ensure that our food is suitable both for the people and the planet.

Congratulating the team involved in shaping the stations Eat Right Stations, Satpathy said that the certificate indicates exemplary efforts made by the railway authorities in ensuring that safe and hygienic food is available to railway passengers. All the catering stalls at Vizianagaram and Srikakulam stations are provided with food licence certificates. The vendors also have medical fitness certificates and adhere strictly to the norms.

He said “it also makes us more responsible to maintain this standard of hygiene and food quality for our valued passengers in future.” He said efforts will be made to include more stations under the ‘Eat Right Station’ category.
