APJ Abdul Kalam Prerana Sthal inaugurated at NSTL

Visakhapatnam As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, and on the occasion of the 90th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, "Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Prerana Sthal" was inaugurated at Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), the premier naval research laboratory of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) here on Friday

Outstanding scientists PVS Ganesh Kumar, BVSS Krishna Kumar, Dr. A Srinivas Kumar, other senior scientists, officers, members of NSTL Civil Employees Union & Works Committee and staff of NSTL, teachers and students of Ramanath Secondary School participated in the event.

On this occasion, statue of Dr. Abdul Kalam was unveiled by Dr. Samir V Kamat, Distinguished Scientist & Director General (Naval Systems & Materials) in the presence of Dr. Y. Sreenivas Rao, Outstanding Scientist & Director NSTL.

The NSTL products Varunastra, TAL, and Maareech were displayed at the venue.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director of NSTL said that the Prerana Sthal' will provide motivation to the NSTL fraternity as well as the public of Visakhapatnam. The life of Abdul Kalam, his impeccable achievements as a scientist, and as people's President of the Nation is an inspiration to generations. He also told that under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Samir V Kamat, NSTL fraternity certainly realises Dr. Kalam's dreams.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, DS & DG (NS&M) in his address stated that 'Dr. Kalam's is an example of what one can achieve if one has determination and willingness to work hard and the ability to dream big'.

He explained various phases of Dr. Kalam's life from his birth in Rameswaram till he became the President of the Nation. He advised all to follow Dr. Kalam's simplicity and suggested NSTL fraternity to work towards the heights that Dr. Kalam expected to reach by DRDO.

To commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, DRDO and NSTL are taking up various initiatives towards highlighting the importance of R&D, motivating the DRDO fraternity, and increasing awareness among the general public, in particular igniting young minds.
