New Delhi: The first six months of last calendar year attracted actual industrial investment of Rs159,362 crore, which was 13.4 per cent more than Rs140,489 crore that the country got in the corresponding period in 2022.

In June, 102 projects with a total investment of Rs40,206 crore reported implementation of industrial entrepreneur memorandums (IEMs) by the way of the Part-B online filing, official sources told Bizz Buzz. Proposed investments are Part-A IEM filings, while actual investments are indicated by Part-B IEM filings.

In comparison, in June 2022, there were 86 Part-B filings of IEMs with a total investment of Rs13,266 crore, which means on a year-on-year basis there was a rise of over 200 per cent in actual industrial investment in June 2023.

The maximum investment has been reported in the sector ‘chemicals other than fertilizers,’ Rs 60156 crore from 62 IEMs. This is more than Rs25,086 crore that the sector got in the entire last calendar year, and comparable even with Rs60,924 crore in 2021.

The food processing industry has also come up very nicely in the last few years. From 72 Part-B filings with a total investment of Rs7,236 crore in 2021, there were 102 Part-B IEMs with Rs15,679 crore in 2021, and 52 filings with Rs19,749 crore in the January-June 2023 period.

The sector attracted Rs7,126 crore under the production-linked incentive (PLI) Scheme, the government said last month.

Electrical equipment got Rs14,112 in the first six months in 2023, as compared to Rs18,879 crore in 2021 and Rs68,682 crore in 2022. ‘Cement and gypsum’ got a total investment of 10,993 crore in January-June 2023, as compared to Rs 23,674 crore in 2021 and Rs 16,734 crore in 2022. Metallurgical industries, telecommunications, and the transportation industry have seen decline in the period mentioned above.
