If you’ve recently installed any cryptocurrency wallet apps, it's time to double-check. Cybersecurity experts at Cyble Research and Intelligence Labs (CRIL) have uncovered a shocking scam involving more than 20 fake crypto wallet apps on the Google Play Store that are stealing users' sensitive data.

⚠️ Over 20 Fake Crypto Apps Exposed

These malicious apps are impersonating legitimate decentralized finance (DeFi) wallets such as SushiSwap, PancakeSwap, Hyperliquid, and Raydium. Despite Google's security screening, they managed to sneak onto the Play Store, putting thousands of dollars in digital assets at risk.

🔓 Why This Scam Is So Dangerous

The danger lies in how these apps operate:

After installation, they prompt users to enter their 12-word recovery phrase, a secret key that grants full access to a crypto wallet.

Once entered, hackers immediately gain control and can empty all the funds within minutes.

These apps mimic the UI and branding of official apps, making it nearly impossible for users to spot the difference.

Some also embed phishing links in their privacy policies to further deceive users.

To add to the deception, these apps are uploaded using repurposed developer accounts—previously associated with legitimate apps like games—so they appear trustworthy at first glance.

🔐 How to Stay Safe

To protect your digital assets, follow these urgent steps:

✅ Delete suspicious wallet apps—especially ones you don’t remember downloading from an official source

✅ Never enter your recovery phrase into any app unless it’s from the official wallet provider

✅ Only download apps from verified developers on the Google Play Store

✅ Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for an added layer of security

✅ Monitor your wallet regularly for unknown or unauthorized transactions
