According to the latest Forbes World’s Billionaires List for 2024, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, has emerged as the wealthiest Indian with a staggering wealth of $116 billion. Ambani's wealth surged by 39.76 percent, propelling him into the exclusive $100 billion club and making him the 9th richest person globally. Following closely behind is Gautam Adani, the chairman of Adani Group, with a net worth of $84 billion, securing the second position among India's wealthiest individuals.

Savitri Jindal, who continues to hold the title of India's richest woman, solidified her position as the fourth richest person in the country, boasting assets worth $33.5 billion.

The Forbes list also highlighted significant growth in India's billionaire count, which rose to 200 individuals, up from 169 the previous year. This surge placed India in the third position globally in terms of the number of billionaires. The collective wealth of these individuals skyrocketed to $954 billion, marking a substantial increase of 41 percent from the previous year.

Among the new additions to the billionaire club were notable figures such as Ramesh Kunhikannan from Kaynes Tech, Naresh Trehan from Medanta, and Renuka Jagtiani from Landmark Group. However, some names, including Byju Raveendran and Rohiqa Mistry from troubled edtech firm Byju’s, dropped off the list this year.

Globally, the number of billionaires surged to 2,781, representing an increase of 141 from the previous year. The report highlighted the swelling fortunes of billionaires, reaching a total of $14.2 trillion in aggregate wealth, which grew by $2 trillion compared to the previous year.

The US retained its position as the home of the most billionaires, with 813 individuals in the rich club, followed by China with 473 billionaires (including Hong Kong). India ranked third on the list with 200 billionaires.

The report underscores the remarkable growth in wealth among the world's billionaires despite challenges such as war, political unrest, and inflation, as global stock markets continue to flourish.
