Tata, Airbus to manufacture H125 single-engine helicopters for commercial use

Airbus and Tata Group have entered into a collaborative agreement to manufacture the H125 single-engine helicopters for commercial use at a facility in Vadodara, Gujarat. The partnership also includes the production of at least 40 C-295 transport aircraft, overseen by Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL). While the official announcement is expected on January 26, coinciding with French President Emmanuel Macron's visit for Republic Day celebrations, Moneycontrol has not independently verified this information.

The collaboration reflects the strengthening ties between France and India, particularly in defense, nuclear energy, and space. In 2023, during Bastille Day celebrations in France, plans for additional submarine purchases and Rafale fighter jets were unveiled, contributing to the growth of diplomatic relations.

The Tata-Airbus deal is poised to meet the rising demand for H125 helicopters in India, spanning various sectors, including interest from high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and applications for transporting goods and responding to medical emergencies. Reports suggest an immediate demand for up to 800 helicopters, indicating a substantial market potential in India.

The Vadodara facility, part of a Rs 21,935-crore deal announced a year ago, marks India's entry into a select group of around a dozen nations capable of producing C-295 transport aircraft. The initiative aligns with the government's 'Make In India' program, and the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023.

Airbus and TASL have existing agreements, including one for the manufacturing and supply of components for Airbus commercial jets such as the A320 and A350. The Tata-Airbus partnership signifies a significant step toward enhancing India's aerospace capabilities and fostering indigenous production.
