Hyderabad: Hyderabad is set to host the FIA Formula E world championship race, E-Prix scheduled to be held on February 11. The GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo (GHAC) on Thursday said it has handled the shipment of these racing cars. The first consignment arrived by a charter flight from Riyadh.

Formula E is the first FIA world championship-status event taking place in India since the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix in 2013. The all-electric racing series will see 11 teams race against one another in the event here. The cargo division of the airport on Thursday handled around 90 tons of race car components and eight racing cars.

Pradeep Panicker, CEO-GHIAL said, "Hyderabad Airport is proud to play an integral part in providing an end-to-end seamless air cargo movement for the first ever Formula E Championship in the country. GHAC is equipped to handle the unbroken shipment of temperature- sensitive goods, heavy machinery, agro, marine products, livestock and various other goods securely transported across national and international markets."

Panicker further said that the cargo consisting of 83 boxes of auto components was unloaded using specially designed cargo handling equipment. "A dedicated green channel was established from the apron to the landside for quick cargo transfer. Special regulatory permissions were in place for immediate onsite custom clearance. A multi-stakeholder crack team has been formed to assist the E-formula team in handling and movement of the cargo through the entire chain of the shipment," the CEO added.
