How does India stand in waste management solutions?

Effective waste management is pivotal in ensuring a pristine and sustainable environment for all. In India, amidst its swift urbanization and economic expansion, robust waste management policies assume heightened significance. Once deemed a mere by-product, waste now presents an urgent challenge, necessitating innovative solutions and holistic strategies to mitigate its detrimental impact on human health and the environment. India contends with a diverse array of waste streams, spanning from domestic and industrial waste to e-waste and biomedical waste. This assortment underscores the intricate nature of waste management, mandating tailored approaches for each category. Endeavours to categorize waste as biodegradable and non-biodegradable underscore the imperative for targeted interventions to curb environmental degradation.

Are you happy with the awareness level among the people and the response from the authorities for proper waste management?

While significant progress has been made in raising awareness and engaging communities in proper waste management practices, there remains more to be accomplished. Our dedication to amplifying the voices of those affected by waste is demonstrated through our proactive approach. We conduct various initiatives such as workshops, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with grassroots organisations to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources necessary to tackle waste-related challenges. Nevertheless, we acknowledge the ongoing need for collaboration with authorities to ensure a comprehensive response to waste management issues. Our commitment to inclusivity means striving for equitable access to our services for all communities, particularly marginalized groups. By fostering a sense of ownership and collective responsibility, we aim to further strengthen environmental stewardship efforts.

Can you please explain how you started your venture Goodeebag and the hurdles you encountered initially?

Growing up in a family of successful businessmen, I knew entrepreneurship was my path. But I wanted to do more than just run a business; I wanted to help nature. Waste was a big issue, especially in households where proper segregation wasn't happening. To tackle this, I started a simple WhatsApp group. I asked people to segregate their waste and give it to me. In return, they got a little reward. People loved the idea! It was something new for them. This encouraged me to expand the concept. Many households generate small amounts of plastic waste daily, but there are no scrap dealers who take such small amounts. I realized this was a common problem. So, to encourage waste segregation as a daily habit, I decided to give people an incentive. That's how Goodeebag was born.
