Banks Closed on May 26, May 29; Open on May 31 Across India

Banks in select Indian states will remain closed on two weekdays next week due to regional holidays, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s official bank holiday calendar. Additionally, all banks across the country will be closed on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
On Monday, May 26, financial institutions in Agartala will shut operations in observance of the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the renowned Bengali poet and freedom fighter. Known as the “Bidrohi Kobi” or Rebel Poet, Nazrul played a significant role in India’s independence movement.
Meanwhile, banks in Shimla will not operate on Thursday, May 29, 2025, marking Maharana Pratap Jayanti. This day honors the birth of Maharana Pratap, the celebrated Rajput king.
Contrary to some weekends, banks will remain open on Saturday, May 31, as it is the fifth Saturday of the month. According to RBI guidelines, banks typically close on the second and fourth Saturdays, while all Sundays are observed as holidays. This makes Sunday, June 1, a nationwide bank holiday.
The RBI has designated six regional and religious holidays during May 2025, alongside the regular weekend breaks. The month’s list of holidays includes:

* May 9 (Friday): Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore
* May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima
* May 16 (Friday): State Day
* May 26 (Monday): Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam

Customers should note that despite physical branch closures, online banking services will remain accessible throughout these holidays. Transactions such as NEFT and RTGS fund transfers, demand draft requests, and cheque book orders can be processed online. Card-related services, including credit, debit, and ATM card management, will also be operational. Additional services such as account maintenance, locker applications, and standing instruction setups can be completed digitally during bank holidays.
