The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) official holiday calendar announcement for banks also mentioned that the year 2025 December would see bank closures coinciding with the public holidays in the country. According to the RBI’s monthly pronouncement, the whole country would have synchronized bank closures for 18 days, which would cover national holidays, local celebrations, and weekends.
Among these holidays are Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, plus festivals and significant regional observances that differ from state to state.
RBI’s Three Categories of Bank Holidays
Like every month, the RBI has classified bank holidays into three main categories:
Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act
RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) holidays
Weekends (Sundays and second/fourth Saturdays)
Because several holidays are region-specific, bank closures may differ depending on the state or city.
