The figure is expected to rise to 15.7 lakh by 2025. Experts are worried because they predict that over the next twenty years, the number of Cancer cases in India and deaths will keep going up.

Cancer initiates when cells in the body start growing uncontrollably and spread to other parts. The most common types for women are cervix, breast, and ovarian cancers, while for men, it is mouth, lung, and prostate cancers. In 2022, oral, breast, and cervical cancers made up a large portion of new cases in India.

Unhealthy lifestyles are often blamed for the rise in cancer cases. The major Cancer risk factors in India include late childbirth and marriage, limited breastfeeding, and other choices contributing to breast cancer. Smokeless tobacco like paan masala and gutka are big culprits in oral cancer cases. Cervical cancer can be caused by certain infections and lifestyle factors, like early sexual activity.

Lung cancer is often linked to pollution, especially indoor air pollution from cooking fuels. Changing diets, with more processed foods and less healthy options, are also contributing to cancer rates. Sadly, many young Indians don't get regular check-ups until it's too late. Cancer prevention measures are crucial to address these risks.

Cancer isn't just a problem for adults. Even children are being diagnosed, sometimes at younger ages than in other countries. But there are things we can do to lower our risk. While we can't control our genes, we can make lifestyle changes like eating healthy, being active and avoiding tobacco.
