The Medchal-Malkajgiri district has kickstarted the process for issuing 118 new liquor shop licences, receiving 54 applications so far. District Prohibition and Excise Officer SK Fayyaz Uddin, along with Qutbullapur Excise CI and Balanagar Excise In-charge CI Yadaya, confirmed the applications following the Telangana government’s recent notification for 2,620 retail liquor shops across the state.

Of the current applications, Medchal leads with 28, Qutbullapur has 16, and Balanagar accounts for 10.

The licence application process began on August 26 at the Sri Pallavi Convention Centre in Peerjadiguda and will continue until October 18, allowing entrepreneurs ample time to submit their applications.

This move is part of Telangana’s effort to expand and regulate liquor retail operations efficiently across districts, ensuring better accessibility and management of alcohol sales.
