Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Charlapalli Passenger Terminal on Monday, adding a significant railway facility to Hyderabad's infrastructure. The event was attended by Telangana Governor Vishnu Dev Verma, Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and V. Somanna, and other leaders. The Charlapalli Terminal, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 428 crore over six and a half years, aims to ease congestion at major railway stations like Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda. The terminal boasts international-standard amenities and improved connectivity for suburban passengers, marking a milestone in South Central Railway's development.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urged the Prime Minister to establish a dedicated railway corridor between Hyderabad and Machilipatnam Port. Highlighting the state's industrial growth, he highlighted the potential of this corridor to boost exports, particularly in the automobile and industrial sectors. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that such a project could help Telangana achieve a trillion-dollar economy.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy announced plans to extend the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) to Yadagirigutta and highlighted ongoing efforts to develop Secunderabad Terminal on par with Shamshabad Airport. He called for state government support in constructing approach roads to Charlapalli Terminal, an issue that has faced delays due to land allocation challenges.
Reddy also outlined the central government’s contribution to railway development in Telangana, noting that 346 kilometers of new railway lines have been added since the Modi administration came to power. The MMTS second phase is being funded entirely by the central government, despite a lack of state financial support.
Starting January 7, additional train stops will be operational at Charlapalli Terminal for the Secunderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar Express and Guntur-Secunderabad Express. Services like the Hyderabad-Chennai Central Express and Gorakhpur-Secunderabad Express will commence operations from Charlapalli Terminal in March.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division building in Odisha. This division, part of the East Coast Railway, is expected to enhance connectivity in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and neighboring regions, fostering socio-economic development. The newly created Jammu Railway Division, spanning over 742 kilometers, was also inaugurated, benefiting areas across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Charlapalli Terminal, located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district, has been designed as an eco-friendly facility with advanced passenger amenities. This development aligns with the government’s commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure and improving connectivity in urban and suburban areas.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy reiterated the government’s dedication to advancing Telangana’s railway network. He announced plans for a new station at Komaravelli and assured the rapid completion of ongoing projects, emphasizing the transformative impact on regional transport and connectivity.
The Charlapalli Terminal is expected to play a crucial role in accommodating the growing demand for rail travel in Hyderabad. With its strategic location and modern features, it is set to become a pivotal hub for passengers in the region.
