Hyderabad: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Tuesday unveiled the ninth edition of Green Sugar Summit 2024. The two-day summit, on the theme, ‘Making Indian Sugar and Biofuels Industry World Class in Green,’ will witness thought leaders discussing on advancing sustainable practices and green technology innovation within the sugar and biofuel industries.

The inputs received from experts during the Summit will be utilised to increase factory-related efficiencies, to reduce steam consumption, power, and water, and minimize waste during the manufacturing process. Speaking to media, Gaurav Goel, Chairman, Green Sugar Summit 2024 said that the event is being held to recognise the potential of sugar industry’s byproducts in making ethanol, compressed biogas, air fuel, and paper that will contribute to net-zero and carbon neutral. “Earlier 29.7 tonne of steam was used to make one tonne of sugar. Now it has come down to 21.5 tonne.

We have also brought down water used in the process to one-third. Going ahead, our focus is on tapping the potential of byproducts in making green fuel, generating power and making paper,” Goel further said. He informed that Bagasse, a leftover fibre after sugar cane is crushed is used to generate steam, power, and make paper.
