RGIA wins top national awards for energy efficiency and sustainability

Hyderabad: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL), which operates Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), has once again been recognized for its leadership in energy management. The airport received the titles of “National Energy Leader” and “Excellent Energy Efficient Unit” at the 26th National Award Ceremony for Excellence in Energy Management, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on September 18, 2025.

This marks the seventh consecutive year that RGIA has been named a National Energy Leader and the ninth time it has been awarded as an Excellent Energy Efficient Unit. The CII awards are designed to honor organizations demonstrating outstanding performance in energy conservation and to promote the adoption of best practices and innovative technologies across industries. More than 570 companies from across the country participated in the 2025 edition. Known for its commitment to sustainability, RGIA has implemented multiple initiatives to minimize its carbon footprint, enhance operational efficiency, and conserve energy. These efforts have resulted in significant savings and widespread recognition within the industry. Commenting on the achievement, Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, said: “RGIA has been at the forefront of adopting energy-efficient practices ever since it began operations. We are the first LEED Platinum-certified airport in Asia and remain committed to protecting the ecosystem through innovation and responsibility. Our goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and these awards reaffirm our ongoing commitment to building a sustainable future.”

The airport’s performance was assessed across multiple areas including innovative projects, energy conservation initiatives, ISO 50001:2018 compliance, sustainability leadership, and community engagement.
