Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday urged students of Osmania University to stay away from political provocations and concentrate on academics to build strong careers and become future leaders of Telangana.

Addressing students during a programme on the university campus, the Chief Minister said young people must develop leadership qualities and aspire to guide the state with vision and integrity. He reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthening Osmania University, noting that he has begun fulfilling his promise to allocate Rs1,000 crore for its infrastructure development and transform it into a world-class institution.

“I have come here with admiration and affection, and with a commitment to pave the way for the university’s growth,” he said, adding that true courage is not about making political visits but about nurturing respect and responsibility. Revanth Reddy recalled the pivotal role played by Osmania University students during the Telangana statehood movement. Telangana, he said, has always been a land of consciousness and resistance against oppression — from Komuram Bheem’s struggle to the armed peasant uprisings. “The contribution of students from Osmania and Kakatiya Universities in achieving statehood is commendable,” he said.

He noted that during the movement, students fought for freedom, social justice and equal opportunities, not for personal gain. The Chief Minister also highlighted the university’s legacy of producing eminent leaders such as P.V. Narasimha Rao, Jaipal Reddy, George Reddy and Gaddar.

In a sharp criticism of the previous BRS government, Revanth Reddy alleged that Osmania University was intentionally neglected for a decade. He accused BRS leaders of amassing vast tracts of land for private farmhouses while failing to deliver on promises such as allotting three-acre land parcels to Dalit families.
