Telangana on Wednesday was hit hard by the widespread rain that Cyclone Montha brought, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that flash floods might occur in the northern and central districts of the state, issuing an advisory.
A few hours earlier, IMD had indicated that the risk of low to moderate flash floods would affect some watersheds and adjacent areas during the next 24 hours. The districts concerned in the warning are Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Mahabubabad, Medak, Medchal–Malkajgiri, and Peddapalle.
Light to moderate rain is predicted to continue over the day, and heavy rains may occur at a few places. Disaster management teams have been set on standby because of the possibility of sudden rises of water in local streams and low-lying areas. Commuters have been informed not to use flooded roads and also to keep safe.
The meteorological department pointed out that rain will reduce slowly starting Thursday as the system moves deeper into the land and loses its strength.
