Hyderabad: More than 1,100 women lit up the streets of Gachibowli on Saturday night as they participated in the 5th edition of Starlight Strides – Women’s Night Run 2025, organised by the Hyderabad Runners Society in association with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC). The event celebrated women’s safety, fitness, and empowerment, combining community spirit with a festive night-time atmosphere.

The run was flagged off by Srujana, DCP–Women Safety, Kalyan, Director–Kalamandir, and Arun Kumar, President–Hyderabad Runners Society. The SCSC ensured a safe and well-coordinated event by deploying 20 trained traffic marshals to manage routes and participant movement.

“It’s inspiring to see so many women participating in a night run dedicated exclusively to them,” said DCP Ms. Srujana, lauding the initiative. Echoing her sentiment, Kalyan of Kalamandir added, “Women can run with both power and grace — we’re proud to support events that celebrate their strength.”

A vibrant highlight of the evening was the participation of saree runners, whose traditional attire and enthusiasm drew loud cheers from onlookers. The event offered three categories — the 10K Timed Run, 5K Timed Run, and 5K Fun Run — attracting runners from diverse age groups and fitness backgrounds.

As part of its inclusive outreach, the Hyderabad Runners Society introduced the ‘Gift a Run’ initiative, offering 30 complimentary registrations to women from NGOs such as Nirman, encouraging community engagement and representation.Another major attraction was the ‘Women’s Kouch25K’, a six-week structured training program by Hyderabad Runners Society. Over 180 women successfully completed their 5K graduation run under the mentorship of 22 inspiring women, who were felicitated during the event for their leadership.

The night culminated with the much-awaited ‘Run in Saree, Win Big’ contest, presented by Kancheepuram Varamahalakshmi Silks, which rewarded winners with gift vouchers worth Rs2 lakh for showcasing spirit and elegance in traditional wear.

The Women’s Night Run 2025 once again underscored the Hyderabad Runners Society’s mission to foster a safe, inclusive, and fitness-driven culture for women, reaffirming Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a hub for community fitness events.
