NGO Raises Security Concerns Over Chinese Chips In T’gana Smart Cards

Hyderabad: Based on a whistleblower’s letter, a non-government organisation, Raahat, the Safe Community Foundation, has raised concerns over the procurement of Smart Cards by the Telangana Transport Department.
The Foundation’s chairman, Dr Kamal Soi said that he has lodged a detailed complaint with the Transport Minister, Government of Telangana, highlighting potential national security risks associated with the use of substandard Chinese chips in smart cards supplied by Colorplast India Pvt Ltd.
Foreseeing no remedial measures, on Monday Dr Soi called for media’s intervention in highlighting the matter. He said, “There is urgent need for stringent regulatory oversight and proactive governance to safeguard citizens’ data and maintain national security.”
