Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy demanded the Telangana government for release of a comprehensive White Paper on the State’s financial condition before the Budget Session commencing March 16.
In his letter addressed to chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, Kishan Reddy questioned the State government’s financial claims, pointing to 'contradictory statements' by the Chief Minister regarding the status of the State treasury. He urged the government to place the true fiscal position before the public in the interest of transparency and accountability. He pointed out, "During the 2023 Assembly elections, the Congress Party made six major guarantees and 420 promises to the people of Telangana. Based on these assurances, the people entrusted your party with the responsibility of governing the State. However, after assuming office, you stated that the State treasury was “empty like mud pots instead of treasure”.
Contradicting this, you recently said in a public meeting, that if needed, Rs1,000 crore could be given to the Sonia Gandhi–Rahul Gandhi family and the Congress Party, giving the impression that while the state treasury is said to be nil, the pockets of Congress leaders are full."
