KIMS Ushalakshmi founding director gets ISS fellowship

Hyderabad: KIMS – Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, Hyderabad, announced that its Founding Director, Dr Raghu Ram Pillarisetti, has been honored with the Honorary Fellowship of the International Society of Surgery (ISS). The award was presented by Tuanku Muhriz, a distinguished member of the Royal Family and the Chief Ruler of Negri Sembilan, Malaysia. Dr Raghu Ram received this accolade alongside two other renowned surgeons: Prof Ernest Gene Moore from the USA and Professor Akira Miyauchi from Japan.

On the ocassion Dr Raghu Ram said, “I dedicate this recognition to my motherland, my family, and to my patients who have given me the unique privilege to be involved in their care. I owe gratitude to my colleagues, friends and the Government of India for their extraordinary support, all along. This high honour is pushing me further to make an even greater impact to improve breast healthcare in my motherland – Bharat.”

An official KIMS release said that Dr Raghu Ram is the youngest, first and only surgeon from Indian subcontinent to have received this highest recognition in the 122 years history of this organisation. The award was conferred during the opening ceremony of the 50th Golden Jubilee World Congress of Surgery hosted by International Society of Surgery and College of Surgeons of Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. More than 1,500 surgeons from over 30 countries are participating in this four-day event ending on August 29, 2024.
