Authorities have issued a high-alert warning for Hyderabad as intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is forecast to impact several zones over the next 72 hours.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TGDPS), weather models predict significant precipitation across the city beginning Monday. Forecast maps reveal escalating intensity, with rainfall distribution expanding through August 7.
* August 4–5 (24-hour period):
Moderate to heavy showers are anticipated in eastern and southeastern GHMC circles, including Kapra, Malkajgiri, Uppal, LB Nagar, and Hayathnagar. These zones are projected to receive 15–64 mm rainfall, with Rangareddy's RJNR and southern CDYG forecast in similar ranges.
* August 5–6 (48-hour period):
Rainfall activity is expected to spread toward southern parts, intensifying in Hayathnagar, BN Reddy Nagar, Rajendranagar, and Chandrayangutta, with continued alerts for LB Nagar and CDYG zones. Central and northern Hyderabad may remain relatively less affected.
* August 6–7 (72-hour period):
Widespread rainfall is expected across nearly all GHMC zones, with Kapra alone likely to receive over 64 mm, indicating localized heavy downpours. The remainder of the city may receive 2.5–15 mm.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and disaster management officials have urged residents to stay indoors during high-intensity spells. The possibility of rapidly forming cumulonimbus clouds raises concern for lightning, gusty winds, and sudden cloudbursts.
