The India Meteorological Department - Hyderabad have issued an orange alert for Hyderabad on Thursday as weather forecasts predict a significant increase in rainfall intensity across several zones of the city.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TGDPS), rainfall activity over Greater Hyderabad is expected to escalate over the next 24 to 72 hours. The 24-hour forecast valid from 8:30 am on August 7 until 8:30 am on August 8 shows moderate rain (yellow zones) across most areas, with higher intensity rainfall (light blue zones) marked for Serilingampally, Charminar, and Kapra.
The 48-hour projection, from August 8 to August 9, indicates an expansion of rainfall coverage. Light blue areas, signifying increased rainfall up to 64.5 mm, spread across nearly all of Hyderabad. Northernmost circles such as Quthbullapur, Alwal, and Gajularamaram are expected to record relatively lower precipitation.
For the 72-hour period ending August 10, the rainfall is predicted to shift spatially again. Southern and eastern circles like LB Nagar, Hayathnagar, and Saroornagar will likely receive higher rain volumes, while western and northern sectors may see reduced intensity.
TGDPS data suggests the rainfall range could vary from 2.5 mm to over 64 mm, with the highest zones marked in blue. Officials advise residents to prepare for waterlogging, traffic congestion, and possible disruptions in low-lying areas.
Commuters are urged to exercise caution, especially in zones like Charminar, Serilingampally, and Kapra, which may receive sustained downpours. GHMC emergency response teams have been kept on alert.
