The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and several other districts in Telangana, warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and moderate to heavy rainfall through May 23.
According to IMD Hyderabad, rain activity is expected to intensify in the city over the next three days, with cloudy conditions and strong winds prevailing. While rainfall is forecast to continue through May 23, heavier downpours are anticipated until May 22.
The weather bureau also indicated that wind speeds could reach squall levels, prompting caution in low-lying and water-logging-prone areas.
Weather observer and forecaster T. Balaji corroborated the IMD’s projections. He stated that Hyderabad and several districts across Telangana are likely to receive cumulative rainfall of up to 100 mm in some pockets, beginning Monday. He noted that rainfall patterns would lead to a measurable drop in daytime temperatures starting today.
The current forecast shows that daytime temperatures across Telangana, including Hyderabad, will hover between 36 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius on May 20. However, beginning May 21, maximum temperatures are expected to fall below 36 degrees Celsius due to ongoing precipitation.
IMD Hyderabad indicated that these conditions mark the tapering of the summer heat and could signal the onset of the monsoon trend across parts of the state.
