Hyderabad: A two-day national seminar - Fire, Electrical, Security and Automation (FESA) 2024, focusing on the pharmaceutical industry, began on Thursday morning at HICC in the city.

The seminar, the largest of its kind in India, was inaugurated by Y Nagi Reddy, Director General of Fire Services, and Chief Guest Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana. B Raja Gopala Rao, Director of Factories, Government of Telangana, was also present. The event is organized by the Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI).

Speaking on the occasion, Nagi Reddy said fire is important in industrial safety in pharmaceutical sector. In the past 10 years, 97 major fires broke out in pharma industries, and Rs 93 crore worth of property was lost. In an incident that occurred recently, property worth Rs 30 crore was reduced to ashes, he said.

Handling fire in the pharmaceutical industry is difficult due to the different kinds of gases and chemicals used.

The Telangana Fire Service Act 1999, Section 13 requires that buildings and hazardous industries must get an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the Fire Department.
