Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was all set to achieve a historic double century against the West Indies during the second Test match at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium when he got run out in an unfortunate manner due to a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill on Day 2.

Jaiswal was on fire and after such a great performance on the wicket, he was out for 175 when the batsmen's communication was very poor, and one of the most unbelievable incidents of the innings occurred. The 23-year-old went for a quick single, but Gill didn’t go, which left Jaiswal in no man’s land. Jaiswal was obviously very upset and showed it before going back to the dressing room, and the umpire had to intervene to settle things down.

Jaiswal Reacts to the Incident

Speaking after the day’s play, Jaiswal downplayed the episode, saying that such moments are part of the game.

“It’s a part of the game. So it’s fine,” Jaiswal told the host broadcaster after stumps on Day 2.

Sources from the Indian dressing room later revealed that Jaiswal told Gill it was “his call” to take the run. However, Gill, focused on the ball, didn’t move from his crease, leading to the mix-up. It was, as commentators noted, “a clear case of miscommunication.”

“I Always Try to Play as Long as I Can”

Despite the unfortunate end, Jaiswal’s innings reinforced his reputation as one of India’s most dependable red-ball batters. The 175-run knock marked the fifth time in his Test career that he crossed 150 runs.

“I always try to play as long as I can,” Jaiswal said. “Early on, there was movement. I thought if I could survive the first hour, scoring would become easier. I just focus on being present and taking it session by session.”

He added that while individual goals motivate him, the team’s success remains his priority.

“It’s important to stay in the moment. If I’m set, I want to take it long and contribute as much as possible to the team,” he noted.

India in Command After Day 2

India put themselves in a commanding position after the first innings scoring 518 runs for the loss of 5 wickets (declared). Jaiswal and Gill both scored hundreds. West Indies, in their response, managed to score only 140 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of day one, which meant that they were still behind by 378 runs.

The Indian bowlers characterized the scenario with Ravindra Jadeja taking three wickets and Kuldeep Yadav one, giving India an upper hand going into the third day of the match.
