Kohli's Plans for ODI Comeback
A three-match series in Australia will be the first stop for India after a seven-month hiatus from ODIs, and this will also be the time when Shubman Gill, the new ODI captain, will play his first game. Besides Gill, the experienced players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also returning to the team and the people are already pondering their future and the question of 2027 World Cup participation.
Karthik via Instagram said that Kohli has been giving himself tough workouts, having two to three practice sessions per week while he is in London:
"He is very much in to it being played in the World Cup. That's number one. In London he was training during this big layoff that the doctor has prescribed for him after a long time. I also know he was practising cricket easily 2-3 sessions a week," Karthik said.
Experience Will Bring Confidence to Team India
Karthik said that Kohli's dedication now means he is likely to attend the World Cup in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, and that he will be a stabilizing factor in the Indian dressing room.
"Now you get the message that the gentleman is very serious about the playing this World Cup. And if he is there, I think, there is no tension. Because he knows what it takes to perform under pressure. And he has done it time and again. And I am very sure he will do it again," Karthik added.
With Kohli's experience and guidance, India will hopefully be able to enter the 2027 ODI World Cup with the right composition of young and seasoned players.
