In a move that caused ripples throughout the Indian cricketing world, the talismanic batsman Virat Kohli is reported to have declared his intention to quit Test cricket.

According to sources within those who work for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the 36-year-old veteran recently revealed his intention to Test Cricket Retirement from the longest-running form in the sport.

Kohli whom he made Test debut the year 2011 and has been the cornerstone of India's resurgence in red ball over the last decade. His bold captaincy, batting prowess and unbeatable energy have helped to transform India into an impressive Test team both in the home and abroad. With more than 9,000 runs and 30 centuries Kohli's presence at the field is nothing short of legendary.

However however, the BCCI isn't yet ready to let go the seasoned batter now. According to reports, top officials have contacted Kohli asking him to reconsider his choice particularly with major tours in the near future. India is set to begin a difficult schedule of overseas tours, which includes trips of England and Australia which is a series in which Kohli's experiences could prove beneficial.

"He's extremely active and full of energy. Being in his dressing room is uplifting for the whole group," said a senior BCCI official under the condition of the anonymity of. "We've requested him to take some time before making a final call."

Although Kohli hasn't made a public Kohli retirement announcement on the matter his fans and former players alike have filled social media with messages of encouragement in hopes that Kohli gives the game another go. At present, Indian cricket waits - with anticipation.

The previous day, India captain Rohit Sharma announced his decision to retire from Test cricket last Wednesday. Kohli was also contemplating similar lines and will put India's batting team of red balls largely dependent on youngsters in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle that begins with a Five-match series of Test matches against England Tour at Leeds on the 20th of June.
