Ending weeks of speculation, Chennai Super Kings have officially confirmed MS Dhoni's appearance in the IPL 2026. The news was confirmed by the CEO Kasi Viswanathan to Cricbuzz, who said, "That's right" when questioned about Dhoni's participation.

Viswanathan, who has been with CSK since its inception in 2008, just like Dhoni, reaffirmed the legendary captain's commitment to the outfit: "MS has told us he will be available for the next season," the CEO said, bringing an end to months of uncertainly over Dhoni's IPL future.

Dhoni, now 44, has led CSK to five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023) and remains one of the iconic figures in the tournament's history. Should he take the field in 2026, it will amount to his 17th year with CSK and 19th in all in the IPL since the very first season of 2008. And playing 248 games for CSK throughout his career, Dhoni has scored 4,865 runs for the franchise and led the team with unmatchable consistency.

Although CSK struggled in the previous season, finishing at the bottom of the points table, Dhoni captained the side in the absence of regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. His decision to return hints at a possible desire to finish on a high note with the franchise he has led since day one.

Sanju Samson Trade Talks Resurface

Meanwhile, reports suggest that CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have reopened discussions over a potential Sanju Samson trade ahead of the November 15 player retention deadline. Dhoni, who is actively involved in team planning, is expected to meet with key CSK stakeholders — including Viswanathan, Gaikwad, and coach Stephen Fleming — on November 10–11 to finalize the squad strategy.

Sources indicate that a top CSK player could be part of the trade deal. RR owner Manoj Badale, who has recently arrived in Mumbai, is reportedly exploring multiple trade options with franchises like Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals, in addition to CSK.

A clearer picture of the trade discussions is expected to emerge in the coming days, but Dhoni’s confirmed presence for IPL 2026 has already reignited excitement among CSK fans and cricket enthusiasts across the country.
