Magnus Carlsen Praises the Rise of Indian Chess at Norway Chess 2025
World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen They praised Indian masters Dommaraju Gukesh, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi at the sidelines in the Norway Chess 2025. The tournament was won by Carlsen began with a victory against Gukesh and followed it by winning another time against Erigaisi.

Carlsen is currently leading the standings by 8 points. Gukesh and Erigaisi occupying fourth place having 4.5 points each.In the 4th round of Norway Chess 2025, Carlsen proved his skill by beating Indian No. 2 Erigaisi to win an endgame win. This victory came just after Carlsen was beaten twice in 2 Armageddon games in preceding rounds.
The opening round of the tournament on the 27th of May featured an interesting match between Carlsen and the current World Champion D Gukesh. Carlsen won their first classic match following Gukesh's win at the world title which marked Carlsen's return to classical chess on his own after almost a year of absence.
When he was discussing the competition among Indian players in chess, Carlsen said to the news agency ANI: "Honestly, it's not just Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa. There's clearly Arjun too, Aravindh who's currently progressing as well as a lot of other players who will compete in the years ahead.
In a discussion of the effects in the field of Artificial Intelligence on chess, Carlsen spoke to ANI: "AI certainly has had a significant impact on the game since it was first introduced around six or about six years ago. It's helped us understand the game tremendously however, it's also an excellent equaliser, in that it's much easier to gain information earlier during your life."
Concerning the competition of Indian players in chess The Norwegian grandmaster of chess, a.k.a ANI, "Honestly, it's not just Gukesh as well as Praggnanandhaa. There's clearly Arjun too, Aravindh, who's now making progress, and many others who are going to be competing in the years ahead. Therefore, the future is extremely promising for Indian Chess. For now, I'm trying to get ahead as long as I can."
Following round 4 of the chess tournament that is currently underway, Carlsen leads the points table with eight points, as it is the Indian team consisting of D. Gukesh and Arjun Erigasi are in the fourth position by scoring 4.5 points.
