The IPL 2026 mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi was a great moment in the history of IPL as it broke the record of an uncapped Indian player. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) purchased the 20-year-old all-rounder Prashant Veer from Uttar Pradesh for a staggering ₹14.20 crore, thus making him the most expensive uncapped player in IPL's history. CSK also shelled out the same amount for another uncapped player, Kartik Sharma, thus showing its vigorous recruitment of young Indian players.

From ₹30 lakh base price to ₹14.20 crore jackpot

Prashant Veer came into the auction with a very low base price of ₹30 lakh, but soon his name was the talk of an amazing bidding war. The event, which was a major surprise, revealed a showdown between CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad to whom the player was worth a lot of money even when the bidding went beyond ₹10 crores. Ultimately, CSK got the player for a whopping amount of ₹14.20 crores.

Who is Prashant Veer?

Prashant Veer comes from the city of Amethi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and is an all-rounder with a left-handed batting and left-arm spinning style. He is touted to be a future star among all-rounders with great potential. At the age of only 20 years, he has already been compared to Ravindra Jadeja and has even been called "Junior Jadeja" by some due to the mix of his batting strength and his bowling skill.

Rapid rise through domestic cricket

The rapid rise of Prashant has been mainly pushed by his excellent performances in domestic T20 cricket. The very first moment he was noticed by the talent scouts was while playing for Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League. His notoriety rose considerably at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he scored 112 runs with a 170 strike rate, and at the same time took 9 wickets. The amazing batting display of 37 runs in only 10 balls drew the attention of the entire cricket world.

CSK’s long-term vision

Prashant Veer also impressed during CSK’s pre-auction trials, convincing the management of his potential to develop into a long-term all-rounder. With the franchise reportedly viewing him as a future successor to Ravindra Jadeja, CSK was prepared to invest heavily in the youngster.

Landing a ₹14.20 crore deal at the age of 20 is a rare achievement and a clear vote of confidence in Prashant Veer’s talent. All eyes will now be on how the young all-rounder adapts to the pressures of the IPL and grows alongside established stars in the CSK setup.
