Heinrich Klaasen likely to be released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2026 mini-auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are reportedly set to make a major change ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, with star wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen likely to be released. According to a Times of India report, there are “strong murmurs” within the franchise about letting go of the South African batter to free up ₹23 crore in their auction purse and strengthen team balance.
Klaasen’s Contract and Performance
Klaasen, who was retained ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, was among the highest-paid players in the squad, earning slightly more than Kummins (₹18 crore) and Abhishek Sharma (₹14 crore). Despite a slow start to the 2025 season, he finished with an impressive 487 runs, at a strike rate of 172.69, featuring both a fifty and a century — his finest-ever IPL showing.
A source quoted by TOI said, “There are strong murmurs, and it could well be a smart move by SRH if they do that. Going into the auction with ₹23 crore more allows them a better chance to strengthen their bowling attack and fix the middle order. They could even aim to buy Klaasen back for around ₹15 crore and still have funds left for other signings.”
SRH Eye Major Reshuffle After Poor 2025 Season
Following their runner-up finish in 2024, SRH endured a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, struggling for consistency throughout the season. Key players like Nitish Reddy and Abhishek Sharma failed to deliver, leaving the once-dominant batting lineup exposed.
Reports also suggest the franchise is considering a revamp of its bowling unit. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who underperformed last season, still commands a ₹10 crore contract, and his future with the team remains uncertain. Additionally, SRH may seek a new spinner, potentially moving on from Rahul Chahar.
Klaasen’s Role and Reputation
The aggressive batsman had a threat of dynamic strokeplay that could alter the course of any match in an instant. Aside from his wicketkeeping, he is equally adept in all batting positions, thus making him an asset in T20 cricket.
With SRH attempting a complete overhaul, it remains to be seen if the Orange Army chooses to let loose one of their most potential match-winners, or if this is one step in the direction of their rebuilding way for IPL 2026.
